CaddyCaddie Newsletter

Issue: #11

July 25, 2008

Hello MMJGA Participants & Parents,

This was another great week for the program as we had a putting lesson with our head professional Dee and we put our skills to the test in our first annual mini-golf tournament. There is still a lot of summer left, so let's keep up the good work with caddying.

Let's play nine

We're back...

This week, we are back to our regular golf outing at the par 3 course at Theodore Wirth. Here are the details:

Monday, July 28 at 10 AM
Theodore Wirth Par 3 Course

Transportation is available, but it is the call ahead system. Please call Jack by Sunday at noon to reserve your ride.

Intense Competition for the Title

Seven brave participants battled it out for the coveted MMJGA mini-golf championship on Monday, with Isaiah finally taking home the title. After a heated round of golf, the MMJGAers took to the pavement, going at it NASCAR-style with go-cart races. The day concluded with bumper boats, where the ultimate goal was to soak assistant director Noah as much as possible... mission accomplished!

Carlos magically makes his putter bend (left) while Colton sinks his putt (right).

We like to sprinkle in events like these, so we're not all business. We'll be going bowling later in August and we're always open to suggestions for other fun ideas for the off-season ahead.

Dee Saves the Day

Our head professional, Dee, helped eight enthusiastic youngsters improve their putting... well, I should say "eight enthusiastic youngsters... and one old man (me)". The event was very helpful as once again, Dee proved that all good golf shots start with a good grip.

We have two more sessions with Dee this season coming up in August, so if you haven't been out for her clinics, make sure you join in before it's too late!

Dee & Kyra talk putting strategy.

Mark your Calendars!

We have some more big events coming up this week & next. We hope to see you all there.

Look mom, I'm on TV!

We were absolutely thrilled with the 3M Championship this year, with 6 caddies participating in the action. This event got our program on three local TV stations, WCCO radio and the Golf Channel! We are hoping to have all of those stories available on our website in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

MMJGA Takes the Title

As we mentioned last newsletter, our program beat out some stiff competition to win the 3M Championship Junior Skills Challenge. We are very proud of all of those who participated. Here are some of the photos from the event, thanks to Mr. Weller for his time and efforts.

Alex putts it in (left) as Anthony D. winds up to hit it hard (right).

Anthony F. chips the ball with textbook form.

Keith follows through with a beautiful swing.

David winds up to knock it close.

Vans to the Courses

Van transportation is available for many caddie events. We provide transportation to MOST Monday play days and Tuesday golf clinics. We also provide morning transportation to your home golf course.

This is the ride reservation protocol:

If you want a ride for ANY EVENT call Jack with 24 hours advance warning at 612.309.8884. This deadline is flexible for Golden Valley caddies only... because some of you haven't been getting assignments until Friday.

When you call, leave a message with your name and the event in which you need a ride - ie: caddying, play day, etc. Jack will call you back with details on your pickup time and location. Keep in mind that pickups will be from Minneapolis Recreation Centers & the Urban League.

If you reserve a ride, you must show up: No exceptions. If you reserve a ride and do not show up you will lose your van riding priviledges for the year.

For your convenience, below is a list of caddie guidelines as well as good time to report for caddying at your various courses:

Golden Valley Caddies
7001 Golden Valley Road
Golden Valley, MN 55427

To clarify, there is a new system for Golden Valley in which Caddiemaster Cameron emails caddies a few days in advance to check availability for the weekend. Then based on your availability, he emails back to let you know your assignments. This means that you do not report unless you are contacted. The good news about this process is that you won't have to wait around the caddieshack very long for an assignment. If you are not getting contacted by Cameron, email or call Jack.

Minikahda Caddies
3205 Excelsior Blvd.
Minneapolis, MN 55416

Working Saturdays & Sundays is required throughout the summer, as per the instructions from Caddiemaster Pat. If you have questions about start times, please contact Jack. They have also listed their special events in the booklet they handed out at orientation, so please note that for your schedules. There is great opportunity here, but it requires great commitment.

Oak Ridge Caddies
700 Oak Ridge Road
Hopkins, MN 55305

Caddiemaster Chris leads the group at Oak Ridge. Please report Saturdays & Sundays at 7:00 AM for caddie assignments. Wednesday & Friday afternoons also have caddying available, so report at noon on those days for extra loops.

Town & Country Caddies
300 Mississippi River Blvd N
St Paul, MN 55104

Report between 6:30-7 AM (no earlier than 6:30) to the course on a weekend morning for caddying opportunities. There are also weekday opportunities here. Greg is the caddiemaster at T&C and if you have any questions, please let him know.

Midland Hills Caddies
2001 Fulham Street
Saint Paul, MN 55113

Please report to Midland Hills between 6:30-7 AM on Saturday or Sunday for your loops. Tucker & Matt are the caddiemasters at Midland Hills.

All good things,
Jack Stahlmann
