Issue: #2

May 6, 2008

Hello MMJGA Participants & Parents,

We are now at the point of the season where the trainings are winding down and the fun is just beginning. This past weekend, we had an excellent visit and tour of the Evans House and this upcoming weekend we will have our first chance to actually play golf in a clinic with the University of Minnesota Golf Team. This has been an excellent spring, with a great group of participants and we are looking forward to a fantastic summer.

GOLF WITH GOLDY - U OF M GOLF CLINIC

First Clinic of the Year

The University of Minnesota Men's and Women's golf programs will host the second annual "Golf with Goldy" at the Les Bolstad University Golf Course on Saturday, May 10th from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Les Bolstad Driving Range
University of Minnesota
2275 Larpenteur Avenue W
St. Paul, MN 55113

The event will start with a brief clinic followed by tips and instruction from members of the Gopher men's and women's golf teams, coaches, and Golf Institute instructors.

We will have transportation for the event with bus stops & times as follows:

Morris Community Center - 11:30 AM
Bryant Square Community Center - 11:45 AM
Urban League - 12:10 PM
North Commons Community Center - 12:20 PM
Bottineau Community Center - 12:35 PM

Please arrive to your bus stop early. Because there are so many stops, the bus will not be able to wait. Also, because there are so many stops, there is a chance that the bus will be late. Please be patient.

For many of you who have concluded caddie training, this Saturday may be your first chance to caddie at your home courses. Therefore, this clinic is NOT mandatory. We certainly do not want to take away caddying opportunities from any of our participants, but we do want to offer all of the golf we can.

EVANS HOUSE TOUR

Tour of the Evans House A Big Hit

On Saturday, May 3rd we had over twenty participants attend a tour of the Evans Scholar House at the University of Minnesota. The tour was lead by active Evans Scholars and it gave the young adults in our program a behind the scenes look at college life. MMJGA participants had the opportunity to ask many questions about college, ranging from class schedules to social life.

After the business of the tour, we headed downstairs to the recreation room for some fun. To the surprise of many, the Evans house had a big screen TV, a pool table, air hockey, and a lot more! If they weren't excited about the possibility of becoming Evans Scholars before, they are now.
